Road by road, summer construction season is causing more closures as work forces detours across Ottawa.

The city is trying to push though as many projects as possible in the next two to three years before LRT construction will take top priority.

Bronson Avenue has been closed between the Queensway and Somerset Street since March and Kanata's Abbeyhill Drive began Monday, amongst others.

"It's inconvenient at the best, but it has to happen, right?" said one driver.

"Take your choice, anywhere in Ottawa seems to be bad these days," said another.

Businesses on Bronson Avenue said they want consumers to know they're still open and worth the trouble.

"It's very empty compared to what it normally is like," said auto shop worker Sheldon MacLean.

"We're down two mechanics this time of year . . . where typically we'd be five, now we are three, so that has an impact as well on people trying to make a living."

All in all, about 300 road construction projects are currently underway in Ottawa.

Woodroffe Avenue between Baseline Drive and Highway 417 will be shut in June, as will Rideau Street between Dalhousie Avenue and Chapel Street.
