A city report recommends big changes to Ottawa's baseball stadium, turning it into an outdoor concert bowl and building retail, office or hotel space on parts of the existing parking lot.

City staff looked at the financial and social impacts of maintaining the stadium and concluded that baseball is in decline in the capital.

The report suggests selling the stadium's main parking lot to developers to make it into a multi-use area.

It also recommends moving forward with a $9 million footbridge over the Queensway that would link the transitway and Via Rail train station to the site.

Currently, pedestrians who hop off the bus near the train station have to take a long walk along Riverside Drive or Belfast Road to get to the stadium.

The city also wants to attract other groups or events to the stadium, besides baseball, in order to make it sustainable over the long-term.
