Four Ottawa residents are Ontario's newest multi-millionaires after sharing the largest lottery win in the province's history.

Four employees of Nav Canada and their spouses were in Toronto Thursday where they were awarded a $40.4-million cheque for winning Saturday's Lotto 6-49 jackpot.

Stan Cowan, who held the winning ticket, said at first he couldn't believe his fortune.

"I went over to the retailer, checked it on the scan machine and it was true and then had to come back to convince the rest of them," he said upon receiving his winnings in Toronto.

After hitting the jackpot, Cowan said he rushed back to work to show co-workers Mark Waters, Nancy Nicholson and Susan Hellyer.

The lucky winners, who have worked at Nav Canada for years, claimed their multi-million prize at an Ottawa kiosk on Metcalfe Street Monday morning.

"It said the grand prize and it said they won the jackpot -- that's when I knew it was $40 million," said kiosk employee Christina Sun.

Their win, however, is not the first time employees at the agency have had luck with the lotto. In August, a group of 18 employees split a little more than $100,000.

Employee Matt Nych told CTV Ottawa the win means Nav Canada employees are a lucky bunch.

Those who know the winners also said they're thrilled for their friends and aren't sure if they'll see them back at work.

"I don't know. I guess when you have a payday of $10 million, it certainly opens up a lot of possibilities," said Ron Singer.

The group is added to a growing list of instant winners in the capital. In July, a barber and his client split a $32-million jackpot. That same month, a part-time custodian won more than $7 million.

In the meantime, Sun says her kiosk has increased in popularity, with lottery players of all kinds hoping to win a buck.
