Ottawa Police have released photos of a man they believe responsible for a hammer attack on someone earlier this week.

A 53-year-old man was randomly assaulted Tuesday evening as he was walking on Somerset St. west of Bank Street.  A witness described blood everywhere after the attack.  The victim was taken to the hospital with several facial and head injuries.

The suspect used a hammer in the attack and was also carrying a large kitchen knife.  He is described as a white male, scruffy looking, about 6 feet two inches tall, weighing 240 pounds with a dark jacket and dark toque. Ottawa Police are looking for any help identifying the man in the photos.  They are asking people to call Ottawa Police Central District Investigations at 613-236-1222 ext. 5166 or Crimestoppers at  613-233-8477(TIPS), toll free at 1-800-222-8477 or by downloading the Ottawa Police iOS app.
