Update:

Ottawa Police have laid a Second Degree Murder charge in the killing Thursday on Meadowlands Drive.

Keith Ru, 25, will appear in court later this morning.

Residents living on all four floors of 1189 Meadowlands drive say they were woken up by the sounds of fighting, early Thursday morning.

Police say when they arrived on scene shortly after 3 a.m. they found one man dead in a top-floor unit.

“The other male was taken to hospital with injuries, non life-threatening, [and] was arrested,” says Insp. Don Sweet. The suspect has since been released from hospital and remains in custody.

Neighbours say loud noise is not a new thing to the building, but the suspicious death has left everyone in shock.

“It's definitely a concern. It's not something that you like to have happen in your building at all, especially with a young family,” says Mitchell Pitt while holding his 17-month-old son Sawyer.

Other neighbours say they saw the suspect being taken away in a stretcher, his face covered in blood.

“There was a guy and he got his face cut and there was blood,” says Rebecca Dowe who lives in a basement unit.

“Just saw a bunch of ambulances and someone being carried out on a stretcher,” says Rylan Bellamy who lives on the third floor.

Police sources say the victim and suspect were both roommates who lived together in the upper unit.

It is the capital’s 7th homicide of 2012.
