OTTAWA – The Ottawa Police Robbery Unit has laid charges in connection to three separate robbery investigations.
On August 16, 2013 at approximately 12:05 am, two victims, a male and female, were in an ATM vestibule situated along the 400 block of Preston Street. A lone male suspect entered brandishing a knife. Both victims were compelled to withdraw an undisclosed quantity of cash from their accounts. The suspect fled with an undisclosed quantity of cash from both victims. There were no injuries.
On August 17, 2013, at approximately 12:45 am, a lone suspect entered a gas station situated along the 600 block of Somerset Street West. At the time, there were two customers in the store. The suspect, armed with a knife, demanded cash and jumped onto the counter. The two customers pulled the suspect off the counter. A scuffle ensued and the suspect was able to break free and flee the scene empty handed. There were no injuries.
On August 18, 2013, at approximately 8:50 pm, a victim was in an ATM vestibule along the 400 block of Rideau Street. A suspect, again armed with a knife, entered and demanded an undisclosed quantity of cash, which the victim has just withdrawn. The suspect fled with the cash. There were no injuries.
In all cases, the suspect fled to a waiting vehicle and driver.
On August 30, a suspect was arrested without incident in connection to these investigations. Alexander McNAUGHTON, age 27 of Ottawa, has been charged with the following:
* Five (5) counts of robbery
* Three (3) counts of possession of a weapon
* Three (3) counts of wearing a disguise
* Two (2) counts of assault with a weapon
* One (1) count breach of undertaking
Mr. McNaughton remains in custody and appears by video on September 3, 2013.
The investigations remain ongoing. The Robbery Unit is seeking a second suspect in connection with this case.
