Ottawa police investigating report of a body in the Rideau Canal

Ottawa police are investigating reports of a body in the Rideau Canal in the downtown area.

Police say officers responded to a call in the area of the canal near the Mackenzie King Bridge at 11 a.m. for a report of a body in the water.

On Thursday, police said officers with the Marine, Dive and Trails Unit attended the scene to assist in the recovery of the body.

"The Coroner’s office has been contacted, and forensic identification will need to occur," police said. 

"At this point, we have no further details to provide regarding the ongoing police investigation."
