Ottawa police are investigating the discovery of human remains along the Rideau River near Hog's Back Park.

Police say they received a call at approximately 4 p.m. Tuesday about human remains in the area of Colonel By Drive and Heron Road.

Investigators are trying to determine the identity of the individual.

Police tell CTV News Ottawa the human remains were not located in the water.

In a statement on Thursday, police said the Coroner's Office has been contacted, and forensic identification will need to occur with the assistance of a forensic anthropologist.

"At this point, we have no further details to provide regarding the ongoing police investigation."
