Ottawa police are investigating two attempted pharmacy robberies that took place in the city Monday night.

The first incident took place at 8:30 p.m. at a pharmacy on Walkley Road near Bank Street in Old Ottawa South. A man entered the store and demanded oxycontin before leaving empty-handed.

The suspect is described as a black man between 25 and 30-years-old with a medium build. He was wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt with a dark vest, dark blue jeans and shoes.

The second attempted robbery took place about an hour later at 9:30 p.m. at a drug store located the in the 1600 Block of Merivale Road. A suspect entered the store and produced a note demanding narcotics before he was told to leave. He fled on foot.

The suspect in that case is described as a black man between 20 and 25 years old and about five-feet-six inches tall. He was wearing a black baseball cap with an unknown symbol on the front and a cream-coloured cardigan under a light grey jacket. He was also wearing dark blue baggy jeans, rolled up at the bottom, with black runner and a white and grey scarf.

Police are investigating a possible link between the two attempted robberies.
