The Curator of the Agriculture Museum here in Ottawa has been charged with possession and distribution of child pornography.

Franz Klingender, 59, was arrested last night at Toronto's Pearson Airport.

After an on-going investigation the Ottawa Police Internet Child Exploitation Unit executed search warrants yesterday at Klingender's home and office, and issued a warrant for his arrest.

Klingender has worked at the Canada Agricultural Museum since 1999. As Curator, he is an expert in the museum's collections and artifacts.

Yves St-Onge, a spokesperson for the Canada Science and Technology Museums Corporation says, “As a corporation that runs three national museums, the security and safety of visitors and staff is paramount to us. We are very concerned and troubled by the allegations made by the investigation.”

The museum and police say the charges against Klingender are not connected to his employment.

In all, he faces 9 charges for possession of child pornography, and 7 for distribution.

Klingender will appear in court again on Monday.

CTV's Natalie Pierosara will have a full report tonight at six.
