A suspect wanted in connection with an Ottawa murder in July 2005 was arrested by Quebec provincial police on Wednesday.
Paul Layoun, 31, was arrested in Saint-Lin-Laurentides, Que. He is the last outstanding suspect wanted in connection with the murder of Graeme Ferguson, who died from clots in his lungs at the corner of Kent and Catherine Streets on July 19, 2005.
Police said he received the fatal injuries while he was confined and tortured over the course of the previous three to five days. His death was ruled a homicide.
Police said Ferguson collected 17 kilograms of pure cocaine from the lost luggage room at the Voyageur bus station on Catherine Street just prior to his death. The street value of the cocaine was worth about $4 million.
Police believe Layoun was directly involved in the abduction, confinement and torture of the victim.
He is scheduled to appear in court in Joliette, Que. on 17 outstanding charges in that region on Aug. 27.
Investigators from the Ottawa police are heading to Quebec to arrange Layoun's return to Ottawa where he will face murder charges.
