Ottawa MP Royal Galipeau recovering from skin cancer surgery

Royal Galipeau has represented Ottawa-Orleans since January of 2006.

Ottawa-Orleans MP Royal Galipeau is recovering after skin cancer surgery.

Galipeau had been diagnosed with basal cell carcinoma and had the procedure done on his forehead on Tuesday.

The cure rate for this type of cancer is around 97 per cent.

The Conservative, who has held his seat since 2006, has received well-wishes on Twitter from Veterans Affairs Minister Steven Blainey and NDP leader Thomas Mulcair.

He will be resting at home through the weekend and is expected to return to the House of Commons on Monday.
