An Ottawa-based RCMP sergeant wounded in an Aug. 15 suicide attack in Afghanistan has been moved to a German hospital, where he remains in stable condition.

Officials say Sgt. Brian Kelly, who had surgery for shrapnel wounds to his legs, will receive further treatment before he returns home to Canada.

The 29-year RCMP veteran is based out of the force's headquarters in the capital.

He began a nine-month mission in Kabul in June.

The 55-year-old Mountie had just left his vehicle and was on his way into NATO headquarters in Kabul when a suicide bomber detonated his vehicle just outside the main gate.

Seven were killed and more than 90 wounded in the attack, including an Afghan civilian working for the Canadian embassy.
