Ottawa police have charged two teenagers with damaging election signs.

Police say two men were walking in the Southmore Drive and McCarthy Road area in the city’s south end in the early morning hours of May 22 and set fire to several signs belonging to one candidate.

19-year-old Thomas Wallis and 18-year-old Grayden Drew, both of Ottawa, were each charged with one count of mischief to property.

There have been a number of reports of election signs belonging to all political parties being vandalized in many ridings across Ottawa.

Police are reminding the public that damaging political signs is a criminal offence.
