An Ottawa man has been sentenced to life in prison for the beating death of his 61-year-old mother last summer.
Twenty-year-old Aaron Howard was brought back to Ottawa from Winnipeg in June 2007 after a Canada-wide arrest warrant was issued for his arrest.
The 20-year-old was close to the U.S. border when he decided to toss a coin to decide his fate -- he flipped tails and turned himself in to Manitoba police.
Howard recently pleaded guilty to second-degree murder charges.
His adoptive mother Deborah Frankel-Howard was found inside the family's home several days after her death. She had a plastic bag over her head and was beaten with a lead pipe.
Howard will not be eligible for parole for 11 years.
