Ottawa police confirm two suspicious deaths in the Centretown area are the result of a murder-suicide.
Police say Andrew Ferguson, 33, murdered his girlfriend then took his own life.
The bodies of Ferguson and Ashley Boudreau, 24, were found inside their Cambridge Street South apartment on Saturday.
It's believed Boudreau was stabbed to death before Ferguson committed suicide. The case is now before Ontario's Special Investigations Unit.
Friends say the couple met several years ago when Ferguson hired Boudreau to be an escort. She apparently prostituted herself to feed her drug addiction.
It was an on-again, off-again relationship, and Boudreau was apparently planning to leave.
A domestic dispute brought police to the same apartment nine days before the couple's bodies were discovered.
Police chief Vern White has called for an investigation into how that call was handled by officers, who responded to the dispute the same day as Const. Eric Czapnik's funeral.
The SIU, which is called in whenever police are involved in cases resulting in serious injury or death, is investigating.
