A 51-year-old Ottawa man died after a snowmobile accident near Quyon, Que. on Saturday night, and his wife is now under investigation for potentially misleading police.

MRC des Collines-de-l'Outaouais police were called to a trail at 10:26 p.m. The man struck a tree after being ejected from the vehicle.

Police were told he was the passenger and his wife was driving and lost control. But after obtaining additional details from witnesses, they were led to believe that the man himself may have been driving, said Sgt. Stphane Forget.

The victim was taken to Shawville hospital and stabilized. He was later transferred to Hull, where he died at about 6 a.m. Sunday morning. His name has not been released.

A coroner's investigation is scheduled, and alcohol is being considered as a possible factor.

Police also plan to probe the initial comments made by the man's wife.

"She is under investigation concerning the way the events were related to police," Sgt. Forget said.
