Ottawa police say a 21-year-old Ottawa man has been charged with trafficking ecstasy inside a Byward Market bar.

Police say Jarrett Lopez was arrested at a bar near Clarence and Dalhousie in the early hours of August 29 and could spend time behind bars for the following:

  • 2 counts of Trafficking in a Schedule I Substance (Ecstasy), under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act
  • 1 count of Possession of a Schedule II Substance (marihuana) under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act
  • 1 count of Possession of Proceeds of Crime Under $5,000.00 under the Criminal Code

Lopez is, reportedly, the same man who was in the news earlier this summer defending a controversial video promoting a private event for frosh week. The event was not associated with any specific campus, but was allegedly overly suggestive as far as sexuality and substance abuse were concerned.  The video was removed from Youtube after making waves in local media.

Lopez has been released on a promise to appear in court on September 24.

Police are reminding the public that the use of illegal drugs like ecstasy can have deadly consequences.
