A 36-year-old Gatineau man is facing several charges, including impaired driving, following a police chase during the early hours of Sunday morning.

Police began pursuing a vehicle that had squealed its tires near Fournier blvd. and Greber blvd.  around 2:50 a.m. Sunday morning.

Gatineau police requested the assistance of Ottawa police to pursue the vehicle that had continued speeding from Gatineau into Ottawa. The car was finally stopped on Rideau st. in downtown Ottawa a few minutes later.

A 36 year-old Ottawa man failed a breathalyser test, and was found to be driving with two times the legal alcohol limit in his system.

The man is facing several charges, including impaired driving, possession of illegal drugs, and speeding.

Police say the vehicle there were chasing reached speeds of up to 150 km/h in a 70 km/h zone.

No one was injured in the chase, and the driver’s 37-year-old passenger is not facing charges.

The vehicle has been seized for 30 days.
