A man involved with an Ottawa church who was convicted in the past of assaulting more than one dozen choir boys in the Kingston area is charged with another historical sexual assault in Kingston.
Police charged John Gallienne, 65, with indecent assault on Wednesday. Investigators say the allegations against Gallienne date back to 1980.
Gallienne is a former Anglican choirmaster in Kingston, who pleaded guilty to 20 sex crimes against young boys between 1975 and 1990. He was also convicted of three more sex charges involving another boy in 1992.
Two years later, Gallienne was also convicted of victimizing a choirboy at an Anglican Church in the 1970s in Victoria, B.C.
Gallienne was arrested in Ottawa, where he is an active member of the Church of St. John the Evangelist on Somerset Street.
He is listed on the Church's website as the "people's warden." He is also a musical assistant and backup director of the church's recorder ensemble.
The bishop's office at the church would not comment on the charges. However, they told CTV Ottawa that they were aware of his criminal history.
The church added that anybody who works with the Anglican Church must first go through a police check.
