OTTAWA - The Ottawa Police Service charged an Ottawa man with Fail to stop and Resist arrest in relation to an incident that occurred yesterday in the area of Cumberland and Murray Streets.

The incident happened at about 7:18am, when police attempted to stop a vehicle, and the driver noted he was in possession of a firearm. As the officer further attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver rammed the police car and fled the scene. A brief police pursuit followed, ending at Kent and Lisgar Streets, during which a member of the public's vehicle was also struck by the suspect.

The suspect was apprehended at Kent and Lisgar, resisted arrest, and an air gun was located inside his vehicle. The suspect and two police officers suffered minor injuries, during the incident.

Keith PEDERSON, 33 year old, of Ottawa, is charged with:

  • One count of Threaten violence/impede perform of justice duties;
  • Two counts of Fail to stop for police/pursuit;
  • One count of Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle;
  • One count of Occupy motor vehicle with firearm;
  • Two counts of Assault peace or public officer;
  • One count of Uttering threats/death or bodily harm;
  • One count of Leave accident scene/vehicle/fail to give name;
  • One count of Unlawfully possess schedule II substance;
  • Two counts of Resist arrest.

He is scheduled to appear in court today.
