An Ottawa man has been charged with extortion and other criminal offences.

Mohammed Nowabe, 26, is accused of taking over someone else's home and using the property to sell drugs. He is also accused of extorting the homeowners for money.

Nowabe is facing a slew of charges including using a firearm in the commission of an indictable offense, pointing a firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm, uttering threats, assault with a weapon, assault and extortion.

He was set to appear in court on Wednesday.
