An Ottawa man has been charged in a case of animal cruelty that the humane society says is among the worst it has ever seen.

It’s alleged the man stabbed and bludgeoned to death a mother raccoon and her baby in June.

49 year old Gregory Armstrong has been charged with two counts of causing unnecessary pain, suffering or injury to an animal.

Bruce Roney of the Ottawa Humane Society says, “This happened over a period of time, it happened while they were alive and trapped, this was willful and pretty horrendous.”

Armstrong is scheduled to appear in court October 21st.

If convicted, he could face up to five years in jail.
