A 28-year-old man is behind bars after witnesses reported seeing a man point a firearm at several people in an east end parking lot.

Ottawa police responded to the scene at Provender Avenue at about 12:30 p.m. Wednesday.

By the time officers arrived, the suspect apparently sped away in his vehicle. No one was injured.

Police later spotted the vehicle in the area of Bathgate Drive and Ogilvie Road. They pursued the suspect until he stopped at an address on Appleford Street, where an unknown male passenger fled on foot.

Police say the suspect continued to lead police on their pursuit until the driver pulled over in the area of Dunvegan Road and Arundel Avenue.

Christopher Leeman, of Ottawa, is charged with various weapons offences, including four counts of pointing a firearm.

Although police searched the Appleford Street area for the male passenger, he was never located.

The suspect is described as a white male in his 20s, who is about five feet 10 inches tall and 190 pounds. He has short, brown hair and was wearing a blue T-shirt.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Guns and Gangs Unit at 613-236-1222, ext. 5050, or Crime Stoppers at 613-233-8477 (TIPS).
