Emergency services were kept busy with fires that destroyed buildings in Ottawa's south and west ends early Wednesday morning.

In Stittsville, fire crews were occupied by a double-barn blaze for several hours when two buildings on Fernbank Road went up in flames just before 1:30 a.m.

The buildings were completely destroyed.

Meanwhile, a community in Ottawa's south end faced its own fight with fire. At about midnight, 43 firefighters responded to a call at 8th Line Road in Osgoode.

Although crews are calling the blaze a total loss, there is no estimate on the extent of the damage to the building.

The cause of both fires remains under investigation.
