Ottawa's economy is stronger than it's been for 10 years.

The details are in the latest review by the Conference Board of Canada analyzing the country's major cities and their economic performance.

This year our region's economy should expand by 3.7 per cent after a negative performance last year. However, the boost will be short-lived.

For the next three years, the board says Ottawa will fall to the bottom of the performance scale because roughly two per cent of the federal government workforce will be lost in each of the next three years.

Western cities and Toronto will be the strong performers in coming years, the board predicted.
