OTTAWA - The alleged victim of a kidnapping earlier this year was on the stand in an Ottawa court on Monday, retelling a horrific story about her jilted ex-lover.

The unnamed woman, who is the daughter of an Ottawa police officer, told court that Andrew Bettencourt, 22, forced his way into her car on Jan. 28, carrying a knife.

She said that they had recently broken up and he was trying to rekindle to relationship.

The woman said he beat her and took her out of the city, driving all the way to the Belleville area before she was able to alert police.

Bettencourt is facing kidnapping, forcible confinement and assault charges.

The trial continues Tuesday.
