An investigation into an incident on March 18 alleges Sgt. Christopher McGuinness was behind the wheel of a car that hit a pole and another car.

It happened on Montreal Road at 1 a.m. just after St. Patrick's Day ended.

He is charged with impaired failure to stop and failure to remain at the scene.

McGuinness is suspended with pay.

He will appear in court June 16.

An off-duty Ottawa police officer was charged with drunk driving and reassigned to administrative duties in April.

Const. David Dubois was stopped and arrested by off-duty police officers at about 11:30 p.m. April 18 for driving while under the influence of alcohol, according to police.

At the time, White stated in a media release that he takes the conduct of his police officers seriously, and they must be held to standards that are consistent with what the community expects of them.
