Workers who put together the new Ottawa Convention Centre got their first look at the finished product Sunday.

The project took almost 8,000 workers and $170 million, but those who helped build it said it exceeded expectations.

"It's better than I was expecting," said Chris Bayliss. "The window on the front is spectacular."

Mayor Jim Watson said the workers deserve credit for a job well done.

"They've done an incredible job to bring this project in on time and on budget," he said.

This was the first big event at the centre. It opens to the public on Wednesday.
