Mike MacDonald spent his life making lives a little brighter with his comedy. Now, he is asking his fans to return the favour.

He was diagnosed with Hepatitis C last year. He needs a liver transplant and money for expensive drugs.

His story is going viral. Heading into day four, MacDonald has raised $23, 000.

"I feel like Jimmy Stewart in 'It's a Beautiful Life,'" he said. "It's just awe inspiring and has renewed my faith in humanity,"

His career in comedy included performances on Late Night with David Letterman, A-List, and Just for Laughs.

MacDonald has been a stand-up comic for more than 33 years, performing all across North America. He made his debut in Ottawa.

A dozen strangers have already offered to get tested for a liver transplant.

Others are sending messages of hope.

"You inspired me...with your brilliant comedy, And you inspire me now with your will to beat this," said L.E.M.

"Don't give up. There's people here pushing for you. People love you and people want to see you get through this," said Ken Nicks,

MacDonald said he overwhelmed by responses.

"It's like a dream that I don't want to wake up from, I could never imagine this never ever."
