Ottawa's police chief says efforts to begin residential drug treatment for young addicts in Ottawa are humming along.

CTV Ottawa has learned Vern White met with Ontario's Municipal Affairs minister Jim Watson Friday.

"When I look back over the last year, there have been some hills to climb," White said. "But I truly believe we're at the top of the hill."

White says the pair discussed details for two planned facilities, and hopes to make them public soon.

"The excitement of knowing they're coming is still fresh and I think that over the next couple of weeks we'll probably see a fleshing out of what that looks like," White said.

"I think, from a capital perspective, you see as well how a number of us have to get together and do some fundraising."

White says United Way-Centraide Ottawa will play a lead role in raising the money needed to open the two centres.
