OTTAWA -- Ontario has declared a state of emergency regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, ordering many facilities closed, including rec centres, libraries, private schools and the dining rooms of bars and restauraunts. 

Ottawa businesses are taking steps to protect staff and patrons from COVID-19. Here’s a look at how local businesses are adjusting their business practices:

La Bottega 

La Bottega says it's temporarily closing its doors.

SportChek, Atmosphere, Party City, Pro Hockey Life, National Sports

SportChek, Atmosphere, Party City, Pro Hockey Life, National Sports and PartSource stores are closed until April 2. 

The Source

The Source has announced all corporately-owned retail locations will close until March 31.

IKEA

IKEA is closing all stores in Canada until further notice. Shopping will continue online at IKEA.ca.

IKEA Canada will also extend all current commercial offers until April 30th, 2020.

Structube

Structube is closing all 75 stores across Canada until March 28.

Hudson's Bay

Hudson's Bay has announced all stores are closing, effective immediately.

Stores will remain closed for two weeks, and reopening will be assessed at that time. 

Customers can still shop at www.thebay.com 

Hudson's Bay says store associates will be paid for all scheduled shifts that were planned for the two weeks. 

Nordstrom

Nordstrom has closed all stores in Canada and the U.S., including the store at the Rideau Centre and Nordstrom Rack at Ottawa Train Yards, for two weeks.

Nordstrom says "we realize the impact a closure can have on our store employees, and this is not a decision we made lightly. We want to take care of them as best we can and will be providing them with pay and benefits during this two-week period."

The Lego Store

The Lego Store in the Rideau Centre has temporarily closed.

David's Tea

David's Tea has closed all stores in Ottawa and across North America until further notice. 

Di Rienzo's

Di Rienzo's Grocery and Deli in Little Italy will close at 2 p.m. Tuesday.

Farm Boy

Farm Boy has announced the Hot Bar, Salad Bar, Soup Bar and Olive Bar will close until further notice. 

Goodlife Fitness

Goodlife Fitness announced it is closing all GoodLife Fitness and Fit4Less Clubs across Canada effective immediately.

 

Movati Athletic

All group classes and personal training sessions are cancelled, as of Monday, March 16. All clubs will be closed.

RA Centre

The RA Centre says all programs, services and activities at the main campus on Riverside Drive have been suspended until April 5.

March Break camps are cancelled. 

Sports Leagues, Fitness Centre and Classes and Food and Beverage Services are suspended.

YMCA-YWCA of the National Capital Region

The YMCA-YWCA of the National Capital Region has announced the following programs/services are temporarily cancelled between March 16 and April 5

  • Y Licensed Child Care and Y Kids Club (after school programs)
  • March Break Camps
  • Health & Fitness Facilities/Programs are closed and cancelled

The following Y Health & Fitness centres will be closed

  • The Taggart Family Y
  • The Ruddy Family Y
  • Clarence-Rockland Y
  • Carlingwood Y
  • Downtown Y

All events and programs are cancelled at the Outdoor Education Centre

Wheelhouse

Wheelhouse has closed its locations on Wellington Street West and Bank Street until further notice.

Elevate Yoga

Elevate has announced it will temporarily close its studio on Elgin Street until further notice.

All classes and workshops are cancelled.

SoulSpeak Yoga

SoulSpeak Yoga has announced its Yoga Studio on Wellington Street West is closed. All classes and workshops are cancelled until further notice.

Bridgehead Coffee

Bridgehead has announced all locations are closed until further notice.

In a statement, Bridgehead says "we are in this together. It is with heavy hearts that we announce all Bridgehead locations are closed until further notice. This is absolutely in the best interest of our entire community."

Happy Goat Coffee:

Happy Goat Coffee has closed all locations except for the main cafe at 35 Laurel Street. 

Happy Goat Coffee's Laurel location will offer only take out "to go" coffee. 

Tim Hortons

Tim Hortons says starting March 17, restaurants will focus on take-out, drive-thru and delivery services.

All dining room seating will be closed until further notice.

Starbucks

Starbucks has announced a number of measures for the next two weeks:

  • Temporarily closing company-operated stores in high-social gathering locations like stores located inside malls or on university campuses
  • In communities with high clusters of COVID-19 cases, Starbucks will be reducing operating hours or temporarily close select stores

Starbucks is also going to a "to go" mode across Canada for at least two weeks. Measures include:

  • Removing all seating, including cafe and patio seating
  • Cafe, Mobile Order & Pay, Drive Thru and Delivery will still be open
  • Modifying the condiments bar in all stores

Second Cup

All Second Cup cafes across Canada will offer take out, delivery and drive-thru only.

All in-café dining rooms will be closed.All Second Cup cafes are no longer accepting cash. Only debit, credit, gift cards and mobile payments will be accepted.

Second Cup will offer a made-for-you model beverage, with baristas adding modifiers such as milk, cream, non-dairy options or sugar to beverages.

Lone Star Texas Grill

Lone Star Texas Grill has announced dine-in service has been suspended at all restaurants effective immediately (March 16).

Take-out, online ordering and delivery service will continue.

Union Local 613, Jabberwocky and The Staff Room

Effective Monday, March 16 Union, Jabberwocky and The Staff Room will be closed for three weeks

In a statement on Facebook, Union Local 613 says "by closing instead of axing shifts (we are currently down about 30 per cent) our staff will at least be able to access EI benefits in the hopes of managing what will no doubt be a trying time for all of us."

Art Is In bakery

Art-Is-In Bakery is closing its operations, effective Wednesday, March 18.

La Bottega

La Bottega will remain open for grocery shopping.

The lunch café has been temporarily closed, and all cooking classes and events have been cancelled.

Kichesippi Beer

Kichesippi Beer says you can get beer at the Taproom Retail store, order online or pick-up in store. 

Kichesippi Beer is offering free home delivery for orders of a minimum of 12 cans to any address in Ottawa.

Beau's Brewery

Beau's Brewery in Vankleek Hill says it is closing its Taproom to the public to help keep customers and employees safe.

Beau's beer will continue to be available through the LCBO, Beer Store and grocery stores

House of TARG

House of TARG on Bank Street has closed effective immediately (Saturday, March 14).

In a statement on Twitter, House of TARG says “due to cancellations and public health/safety concerns we’ve made the difficult decision to close TARG effective immediately.”

Preston Street

The Preston BIA says its businesses and restaurants remain open.

The BIA says many restaurants are offering "to seat every second table to accommodate social distancing."

Yogatown

Yogatown is closing its locations on Preston Street, 1300 Stittsville Main St. in Stittsville and 34 Highbury Park Drive in Barrhaven effective immediately.

In a statement on Facebook, Yogatown says "while we have taken increasingly serious measures to provide a clean and sanitary studio space for you, we no longer feel they are enough."

All events and workshops are cancelled, and memberships are being placed on hold.

Yogatown is promising to record new classes for the Yogatown YouTube Channel.

Moo Shu Ice Cream & Ottawa

Moo Shu Ice Cream and Ottawa on Bank Street is closed 

Lululemon

Lululemon has closed stores in Ottawa, across North America and Europe for two weeks.

The Canadian-based company announced Lululemon stores will be closed from March 16 through March 27. 

Lululemon says "employees will continue to receive pay for all hours they have been scheduled to work and have access to Lululemon's Global Relief plan."

Apple

Tech giant Apple has closed all stores in Ottawa and across Canada for two weeks.

In a statement, CEO Tim Cook says “Apple will be temporarily closing all stores outside of Greater China until March 27.”

Ottawa Farmers Market

The Ottawa Farmers Market will be closed starting March 22 until further notice.

Rideau Centre

Starting Monday, March 16, the Rideau Centre is reducing operating hours for businesses. Cadillac Fairview says the mall's reduced operating hours will remain in place for two weeks, at which point they will be re-evaluated.

The mall will be open Monday to Saturday 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. 

All events that bring people to the Rideau Centre are also postponed or cancelled. This includes group yoga, seminars and other community activations. 

St.  Laurent shopping centre

St. Laurent is offering its retailers the option to reduce their store operating hours until further notice:

Monday - Friday: 11 a.m. - 7 p.m.

Saturday: 11 a.m. - 6 p.m. 

Sunday: 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. 

All planned public events are cancelled until the end of March. The mall says “we will reassess the situation then and determine if more time is needed before reinstating public events”

Place d’Orleans

Place d'Orleans has announced starting Monday, March 16 it will be reducing hours.

Monday to Friday, the mall will be open 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. 

Special events that will result in large gatherings have been suspended, including March Break activities.

The use of food court trays has been suspended

Bayshore Shopping Centre

Starting Monday, March 16, Bayshore Shopping Centre is reducing its hours of operation.

Monday to Saturday - 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Sunday - 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. 

The reduced hours will remain in place for two weeks.

Nordik Spa-Nature 

Nordik Spa-Nature in Chelsea has closed until further notice.

In a statement, Nordik Spa-Nature says "following new recommendations from the public health department, and in your best interests, Nordik Spa-Nature will temporarily close its doors at 11 p.m. (March 15) for an indefinite period of time to contribute to the collective efforts in limiting the spread of COVID-19."

Cosmic Adventures

Cosmic Adventures on Ogilvie Road has suspended operations until further notice.

It will provide refunds and re-bookings to those who have events planned during the closure.

Heart and Crown, Aulde Dubliner & Pour House

The operator of Heart and Crown, Aulde Dubliner & Pour House has announced it is "proactively closing our pubs to the public effective immediately."

Beckta Dining and Wine, Play Food Wine, Gezellig

Stephen Beckta announced Beckta Dining and Wine, Play Food Wine and Gezellig are closed.

Diamond Entertainment Venues in Ottawa

Dreammind Entertainment President Abbis Mahmoud has announced all restaurants, nightclubs and businesses are closing due to COVID-19, effective Sunday, March 15.

Dreammind Entertainment operates Happy Fish, Drama in Kanata, The Show on Clarence Street, Room 104 on Clarence Street, Hudson on Rideau Street and Waverley on Elgin Street.

Camp Fortune

Camp Fortune has announced it's suspending all activities as of the end of day, March 15, for an indefinite period. 

Scout Shop

Scouts Canada says Scout Shops across Canada, including the store on Baseline Road in Ottawa, will be closed until at least April 5. Scoutshop.ca will remain available.

CAA Travel Stores

Cineplex

Cineplex says it is temporarily closing its network of theatres and location-based entertainment venues across Canada starting March 16, 2020, through to April 2, 2020.

Landmark Cinemas

Landmark Cinemas has closed all theatres until further notice (effective March 16)

Superette

Superette's store at 1306 Wellington Street W will be temporarily closing as of March 17. This closure will remain in place until it is appropriate to reopen.

Tokyo Smoke and Tweed

Canopy Growth says it's closing all of its corporate-owned Tokyo Smoke and Tweed stores, including the Tweed visitors' centre in Smiths Falls.

Habitat for Humanity ReStore

The Habitat for Humanity's ReStores in Ottawa are closed until further notice.

Habitat for Humanity Greater Ottawa says it's unable to accept donated materials at this time, and donation pick-up service has been suspended.
