Ottawa-based group deal service Kahoot is shutting down after almost two years of service.

Management said in an e-mail they're sincerely apologizing for the sudden move.

"After offering Ottawan's (sic) daily deals for almost two years, we have suddenly and unfortunately have had to close our doors due to circumstances beyond our control," they said.

All vouchers bought from Kahoot.ca will be valid until Jan. 1, 2013, and products are still being shipped.

A message on the company's website thanks customers for their patronage.

Kahoot's Twitter account hasn't been updated since May 1.

CTV Ottawa profiled the company in March of 2011, when founder Ryan Wilby said 70,000 people had already signed up.

"We've got to the point where there is a waiting list of clients who are constantly asking me: ‘When are we going to be on?' And sometimes it's up to a month," he said.

Kahoot had branches across the country in cities like Calgary and London, Ont.
