Ottawa's largest roundabout opened in Orleans Wednesday and some drivers are having a hard time adjusting to the new addition to the city's traffic grid.
"Boy, I don't like it," said Tina Loveridge, who owns a business near the roundabout. "Every day it's a big topic and I think if people can actually avoid it, they do."
Councillors decided to install the multi-lane roundabout, located at St. Joseph and Jeanne d'Arc Boulevard, after a number of serious crashes at the former four-way intersection.
Andy Smith, the roundabout's designer, said that drivers must be aware of where they want to go and what lane they should be in before entering the loop. Vehicles already in the roundabout have the right of way, and drivers should not change lanes.
