Ontario Provincial Police say it's too early to know whether a body found in a field near Harrison's Corners, north of Cornwall, is a result of foul play.

The body was found on the edge of an open field about four metres off County Road 15 in South Stormont Township at about 9:30 a.m. Thursday.

OPP Const. Paul Murphy says police won't be able to determine if foul play was involved until an autopsy is conducted in Ottawa on Friday.

In the meantime, the OPP crime unit has taken over the investigation and the area continues to be cordoned off with police tape.

Residents living in the area say they can't believe a body was found so close to their country home.

A section of Avonmore Road between County Road 18 and Black River was closed for a short time while police investigated. The road has since reopened.
