OPP charge 67 drivers for using their phones while driving on Hwy. 401 in eastern Ontario

Sixty-seven drivers have been charged with distracted driving during a six-day enforcement operation by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) on Highway 401 in eastern Ontario.
Police say members of the Lennox & Addington and Frontenac County Detachment of the OPP caught the drivers using their cellphone devices during the enforcement.
Nine heavy trucks were among the 67 drivers stopped for distracted driving during the blitz, police say.
Each driver will be facing a $615 fine, three demerit points and a three-day licence suspension, if convicted, according to the OPP.
“The OPP would like to remind all drivers that using a handheld communication device while driving is distracted driving and can have tragic results. Drivers are encouraged to use hands free devices only for the safety of themselves and other road users,” the OPP said in a post on X.
