TORONTO - A retiree from Sarnia, Ont., says he started crying when he realized he had won $16 million in Friday's Lotto Max draw.
Jon Hines, 61, held one of three winning tickets in the $50-million draw.
The retired petro-chemical worker collected his cheque at the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corp. office today, as his family members watched.
Hines says the first thing he intends to buy with his windfall is a new car.
He plans to share the jackpot with his family, saying he has two children and five brothers and sisters.
Hines says once he realized he had the winning number, he celebrated by ordering a pizza.
"My daughter complained, 'You're a millionaire and we're having pizza?"'
Hines, who retired last year after 30 years at the same company, said it was a huge shock when he found his numbers matched.
"I checked online on Saturday morning, and realized that I had all seven numbers and I started to cry," he said. "Tears came to my eyes. It was really an emotional moment."
Although Hines already has a newer home, he said he plans to use some of his winnings to build a new house in a rural area.
"I can build a house the way I want it, with a nice big TV room and lots of land!"
