One man is dead, another women in hospital after their vehicles collided on highway 416, this morning.

Ontario Provincial Police say Daniel Potvin was driving northbound when his vehicle crossed the median into oncoming traffic. The 66-year-old Spencerville man's pickup truck collided with southbound car. Potvin was pronounced dead at the scene.

A team of paramedics was heading south to a training exercise when the crash occured in front of them.

"They were right behind it and they saw the accident and they provided first aid," says Frank Lalonde of the Ottawa Paramedic Service.

A 37-year-old woman had to be extricated from the other vehicle. She was airlifted to hospital with head injuries and a fractured leg. She is now in stable condition.

Police closed the southbound lanes for most of the day. Investigators say heavy snow in the area may have played a factor but are looking at all possibilites.

The section of highway was re-opened this afternoon.
