This traditional last weekend of summer is sending people scrambling to soak up some final rays of sun.

With a return to work and school looming, many said they were focused on ending the summer on a high note.

“I’m trying to take in all of the warm weather before it’s winter, enjoy it while it's warm,” said one man.

“I'm actually really lucky,” said flower vendor Elizabeth Werdnik. “It's not too hot, not too windy, everybody is in a good mood and ready to buy flowers.”

Others said they were packing to leave town for one of their last lake-side sessions of the year.

“Burgers of course, as you can see I’ve got marshmallows,” said Darcy Terrell. “All sorts of things you need at a cottage.”

One group of youth was taking advantage of the migrations with a fundraiser.

“We're washing cars today to raise money for PC's children's charity,” said Gabby Zitikyte. “It's a nice day today, so otherwise I'd be at home; may as well do something worthwhile.”

While some were reflecting on their favourite summer memories, others admitted they were looking ahead to cooler weather.

“We took an eight-day trip a couple of weeks ago, probably the most relaxing trip I've ever been on,” said Remi Duranleau. “No airports, no deadlines, we went as far as we wanted to go and came back, it was awesome.”

“Definitely (excited for) going back to school, getting back into a routine,” said one girl. “We like to snowboard so we’re glad winter is coming.”
