OC Transpo said Monday they have fired the bus driver who was caught yelling at a disruptive passenger earlier this month.

OC Transpo general manager Alain Mercier said in an e-mail the service had wrapped up its investigation into the incident and decided to fire the driver, who wasn't named.

A YouTube video posted Nov. 3 showed the driver swearing at and threatening a passenger who said he is mildly autistic.

The video caused widespread outrage and many calls for the bus driver to be disciplined, including from 20-year-old Matthew Taronno, the subject of the bus driver's tirade.

Taronno had said he was reciting a short play he had written and didn't mean to provoke the driver.

He said he felt threatened and left the bus at the next stop.

Mercier's e-mail said a union grievance is possible so there will be no further information from the city.
