OC Transpo's general manager is acknowledging there's been problems with service this summer, but insists that improvements are on the way.

Alain Mercier says road construction, more people taking the bus and drivers on vacation all contributed to transit disruptions this summer.

Now, he says new hybrid buses, new hires, as well as 100 bus drivers back from vacation will help improve service.

However, not everyone is buying that explanation. Some city councillors say Mercier is glossing over constant service problems, the latest of which is scheduling, which often translates into long delays and missed routes.

Labour strife among drivers and the city also continues. Drivers rejected a new collective agreement last week, even though their union endorsed the deal.

The current contract for OC Transpo drivers expires on March 31, 2011.
