An Ottawa police officer was rushed to hospital after a serious collision in Stittsville this morning.

Police say the crashed happened just after 9 a.m. at Hazeldean Road and Huntmar Drive.

The male officer in his 30s suffered a serious head injury after his cruiser was involved in a T-bone collision with another vehicle.  He was initially unconscious but regained consciousness soon after paramedic’s arrival.

The driver of the other vehicle is a 52 year old female. She was trapped in her vehicle and required extrication by Ottawa Fire Services. Both victims are awake and in serious but stable condition in hospital

Ottawa Police say Ontario's Special Investigations Unit has invoked its mandate and is investigating.
