Highway 7 is open again after a fatal crash involving a Greyhound bus west of Carleton Place Friday.
Lanark County OPP say the bus and a Volkswagon Jetta collided head-on around 10:15 a.m. near Ramsay Concession Road 1, causing the Volkswagon to catch fire and its engine to fly about ten metres.
Jetta driver Damon McCamon, age 29 of Lanark, was pronounced dead at the scene.
"I ran towards the car, but another man who was a witness said 'You don't want to look at the driver,'" said Kathleen McIntyre.
CTV Winnipeg’s Karen Rocznik was on the bus headed from Ottawa to Toronto when the crash happened.
"All of the sudden we heard a loud crash and the bus veered to the side of the highway," Rocznik said. "Everybody managed to get off the bus OK, we were all fine."
"I was listening to my music, eyes closed," said Jonathon Cole. "(There was a) big collision, everyone's flying around the bus."
Forty-eight people were on the bus at the time of the crash. There was nobody else inside the other vehicle.
Two bus passengers were taken to hospital with minor injuries and the rest were bussed to Carleton Place so their trip could continue.
OPP said the bus driver should be commended for keeping it under control as more people could have been hurt.
"I'd hit my knee, the bus started tilting because it had gone into the ditch," said Chris Taylor. "I didn't know if the bus was going to fall over."
Detours were in place at Ferguson Falls Road and Tatlock Road, as both lanes of the highway were closed.
