A new community centre built entirely by local workers opened in Smiths Falls Friday.
The $12 million facility, called the Smiths Falls Memorial Community Centre, houses an ice rink, community hall, and several multipurpose areas.
It will replace the old centre which remains next door.
Smiths Falls has lost more than 1500 jobs over the past several years. The community is hoping that the new centre will be a source of revenue and job creation.
