The National Capital Commission has put seven properties up for rent in Ottawa’s Greenbelt.

One requirement is that agricultural activities, like growing crops or having livestock, takes place on the property. The NCC said the lease would be a commercial one, and the cost of any renovations or repairs would be out of the tenants’ pockets.

Just Food, an organization that just signed a 25-year lease with the NCC, also has a program to help new farmers in the region.

The deadline to apply for one the properties, which include homes and land, is in August.
