Police are treating the death of a New Brunswick man who fell off a hydraulic lift in downtown Ottawa Friday morning as accidental.

Emergency crews were called to Sparks Street near Bank Street around 2:15 a.m. Friday. after a man fell about 15 feet from the basket of the lift.

They performed CPR on the man and took him to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

He has been identified as 39-year-old Dale Clinton of Saint John, N.B.

Police said Clinton was not a worker, so it’s not an industrial accident.

They said they don't know what caused him to climb ithe lift and aren't commenting on whether alcohol was involved.
