The teen suspect accused in the prom night murder of Brandon Volpi made a brief court appearance Saturday morning in Ottawa.

18-year-old Devontay Hackett was arrested Friday afternoon in Toronto. He was wanted on a Canada-wide warrant in connection with the death of 18-year-old Brandon Volpi.

Hackett was wanted for second-degree murder.

Volpi was stabbed to death in the early morning hours of June 7, 2014 during an overnight prom celebration outside a downtown hotel.

Volpi was a student at St. Patrick's High School.

Hackett was enrolled at St. Pius X High School.

Danny Volpi, the father of the victim, told CTV Ottawa he's relieved with the news of Hackett's arrest.

'It was a matter of time, I knew he couldn't run forever', Volpi said.
