Provincial police say human remains found in a wooded area are those of missing person Fouad Nayel and are treating his death as a murder.
An autopsy confirmed the remains found near Calabogie Road and Norton Road Sunday are those of Nayel, who had last been seen in the Petawawa area June 17.
It also revealed indications he could have been murdered.
"We are working with Ottawa police, trying to determine how he died and who is responsible," said Sgt. Kristine Rae of the OPP.
Police marine, dive and trails unit had previously searched the Calabogie area and found nothing.
Sources tell CTV Ottawa the body had been buried and was likely dug up by animals.
Nayel’s family said in July they were concerned he was a victim of foul play.
“We miss you, we will never stop searching until we find you,” they said in a statement. “The people who have done this to you must face justice.”
Nayel's family asked for privacy Thursday when contacted by CTV Ottawa.
