Ottawa police officers will share their files with the OPP in relation to the investigation of Col. Russell Williams, the man accused of killing two women and sexually assaulting two others. Meanwhile, the OPP spent Thursday scouring several properties the former CFB Trenton commander owns or shares.
"To date, we've talked to people in break and enter and sex assault, but we're merely in the preliminary stages of this invesigation," said Insp. Al Tario of the Ottawa police.
Since the case crosses police jurisdictions, the Ottawa police plan to share their files with the OPP during the initial stages, he said.
"The request to look at our (files) is highest of highest orders," he said. "Once we have the scope defined, we'll get down to business with the OPP."
Townhome, Tweed cottage investigated
That same day, OPP plainclothes investigators taped off the townhouse of Williams, who is accused of murdering Jessica Lloyd, found dead Monday, and Cpl. Marie-France Comeau, who was killed in November.
They also went to his cottage in Tweed, near Trenton, and two properties he shares with wife Mary-Elizabeth Harriman. Harriman is also the associate director of the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
He's also accused of breaking into the homes and sexually assaulting two women in Tweed, who live nearby his cottage. None of the allegations he faces has been proved in court.
Police are also checking into any cold cases in towns where he was previously posted with the military. These include Shearwater, N.S., Ottawa, the Middle East and the Canadian Forces language school in Gatineau, Que.
According to Halifax Police, three young women were murdered at the same time Williams was stationed in Shearwater in 1992.
