A motocross driver is dead and a pedestrian is in life-threatening condition after two separate crashes in Gatineau Sunday afternoon.

Police said a 27-year-old man was driving through the woods near Sabourin Street around 1:25 p.m. when he went to cross and was hit by a vehicle.

The man was taken to hospital in Hull, where he was later pronounced dead. Police said they don’t think he was wearing a helmet.

The couple in the vehicle, both around 70 years old, were not injured.

However, police said the woman was shaken up about what happened.

The second crash happened around 4:15 p.m., when police said a 44-year-old male driver traveling west on Boulevard Alexandre-Tache crossed all lanes of traffic and hit a 24-year-old man walking east.

The victim was taken to hospital in Hull with life-threatening injuries. Original reports from police said he had died, but they later issued a correction.

Police said the driver may have had a medical episode that caused him to lose control.
